ABOUT 3000 members of the Methodist Church Women's Fellowship will converge in Savusavu next week to celebrate 70 years of the fellowship's existence.

Department of the Methodist Church Women's Fellowship secretary, Deaconess Salanieta Naucabalavu, said the North was chosen as the venue because it was where the group initially formed in 1948.

Ms Naucabalavu added, the theme of the celebration, is the Year of Release and it stands for the biblical meaning of the 70 years they have reached.

"We will meet up for a fellowship and this is a good way for members to meet and get to know each other and enjoy the day together," she said.

She said there would be three celebrations. The celebrations will be held at Naqelekula in Savusavu, the second celebration will be in July at the Shangri-La's Fijian Resort & Spa followed by a seminar and the third celebration will be held in Suva.

"The reason we have picked out three different venues and time for the celebrations was basically to allow our members that live in rural areas to be part of it as well," she said.

"We chose Naqelekula Mission compound in Savusavu to be the first venue because it is where the first fellowship group was formed." Ms Naucabalavu said the celebration also includes medical teams who would conduct some health check-ups.

"This is also a great time for women who find it hard to go for a check-up at the hospital to get checked," she said.
