FRA proposal to upgrade sealed roads

Tuesday, January 30, 2018

Update: 12:26PM AS part of the Suva Arterial Road Upgrade Project (SARUP 2), the Fiji Roads Authority is proposing to rehabilitate and upgrade 20 sections of existing sealed roads comprising of approximately 17.756 km.

There are also plans for small sections of road widening (within the existing road reserve) and footpath installation at selected sites.

FRA has commissioned SCOPE Pacific to carry out the Environmental Assessment and Social Safeguards Assessment as part of the ADB Due Diligence Procedures for SARUP 2.

Public consultations will take place this week to give key stakeholders, surrounding community members and the general public  an opportunity to raise issues or concerns to the proposed road works which in turn be incorporated as part of the Environmental and Social Due Diligence reports to be submitted to the Department of Environment and ADB for review.

The two public consultation meetings will be conducted at 8:30am this Thursday at the Catholic Church Hall, Ratu Dovi Rd, Nadawa and at 8:30am this Friday at the N111 Lecture Theatre, USP Lower Campus, Suva.

The public consultations will provide an overview of the proposed road upgrade works, identify potential environmental and social impacts envisaged and how these could potentially be mitigated.
