Update: 11:29AM GOVERNMENT plans are in place to address flooding in Nadi and other preparatory works to reduce the impacts of climate change in Fiji.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum met with Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii yesterday to discuss the proposed projects.

"Japan's experience in addressing extreme weather events, paired with its cutting-edge technology and innovative thinking, can greatly assist us in moving forward the Nadi River Flood Protection Project," said Mr Sayed-Khaiyum.

"We look forward to further building upon the already-strong relationship between the Japanese and Fijian people."

Mr Horii also expressed Japan's continued support in the global fight against climate change, and encouraged closer Fijian-Japanese cooperation in other areas of shared strategic interest.
