Support the team

FORMER National 7s player Sireli Bobo has called on local supporters to back our Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Hamilton this weekend.

The Ra native spoke in favour of the players even after their disappointing finish in the Sydney 7s tournament last weekend.

Bobo said negative criticism against the players and the coach would never help them progress.

"I don't personally know Baber but we should support him," he said.

"One thing that we, Fijians, are good at is that when the team loses, we start pointing fingers at the players and most of all the coach for not doing a good job.

"But one question that we, as supporters should ask is, what we can do to help the boys perform well.

"These boys sacrificed a lot, compared with other teams in the series, they have the money and everything, Fiji is not like that — the only option we have is to support them.

"We have to find a solution together to help them and not pull them down with our vicious comments on social media. Watching their pool game against New Zealand, they were on fire but what happened next, we didn't know, whatever was on their mind, one thing's for sure — we should be positive, win or lose we should support them."

Fiji was bundled out of the main cup quarter-final match against USA 24-7 and later thrashed by New Zealand 31-7 in the fifth place final.
