A MAN who allegedly abducted and raped a 12-year-old girl at Lakena Irrigation Rd in Nausori last week has been remanded in custody.

He was remanded by the Nausori Magistrates Court because he was charged with an indictable offence.

Manasa Ratuloaloa appeared before Magistrate Vandhana Lal yesterday.

Mr Ratuloaloa is charged with one count of abduction of a person under 18 years with the intent to have carnal knowledge, wrongful confinement, indecently annoying any person, assault with intent to commit rape and rape.

The prosecution yesterday objected to bail for the accused because he was charged with a serious offence.

The accused had allegedly offered the complainant a ride and took her to Lakena where he allegedly raped her.

The girl managed to fight off the accused and freed herself.

The accused was then alleged to have tried to run over the victim with his car.

Late Thursday, the man allegedly tried to lure another girl in a similar way; however, she managed to fight off the accused.

Following this, police was then able to get a clear description of the accused's vehicle and was able to arrest him near Naduruloulou, outside Nausori Town.

Mr Ratuloaloa will reappear in court on February 12.
