VILLAGE health committees of Wailevu district in Cakaudrove have started working on strategies to control the spread of dengue.

Roko Tui Cakaudrove Filimoni Naiqumu confirmed the teams, including village headmen, have started clean-up programs.

"Our teams have been out in these dengue affected areas working with village headmen and getting rid of all mosquito breeding areas," he said.

"My team has also met the medical team last week to discuss ways of tackling this dengue issue.

"Awareness programs have also been organised for our villagers, but the clean-up of compounds has started."

Mr Naiqumu said the committees were told to keep the provincial council team updated with clean-up reports.

"We also understand that there is funding for this clean-up program and we will be spraying the affected villages in Wailevu district and Savusavu area," he said.

"We will also have another meeting with the health team this week and it's all for the sake of controlling the spread of dengue."

Last week, 11 people tested positive for dengue fever in Savusavu.

An email sent out to Savusavu residents through the network "Savusavu eblast" reminded communities to keep their surroundings clean.

The network also confirmed the tests were confirmed on Monday last week.
