Rape trial suspended

Update: 7:19PM THE trial of a woman who was allegedly raped by a taxi driver in 2014 had to be temporarily suspended three times today as the victim was not emotionally fit.

The 18-year-old girl told the High Court today that the man had threatened her using a knife.

The 33-year-old man who is charged with one count of abduction and three counts of rape is standing trial before High Court judge Justice Riyaz Hamza.

It is alleged that the man had abducted the 14-year-old girl from Nasinu and took her to Nadi, Lautoka and Rakiraki and raped her on three separate days.

The alleged incident took place between January 11 to January 13 2014.

In her evidence, the victim said she wanted to escape from the accused but he threatened and said that he would kill her if she screamed.

The trial continues tomorrow.
