Court remands rape suspect

Update: 3:18PM A MAN who allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl in Lakena, Nausori and tried to run over her has been remanded in custody by the Nausori Magistrates Court.

Manasa Ratuloaloa appeared before the court in the last hour where prosecution objected to bail, saying he was charged with an indictable offence.

The accused would reappear in court on February 12 where the court would decide on the transfer date.

He is charged with one count of abduction of a person under 18 years with the intent to have carnal knowledge, wrongful confinement, indecently annoying any person, assault with intent to commit rape and rape.

The accused had allegedly offered the 12‑year‑old girl a ride and took her to Lakena where he allegedly raped her.

The girl managed to fight off her attacker and freed herself and it is alleged the man then tried to run the victim over with his car.

Late Thursday, the man allegedly tried to lure another girl in a similar way however she managed to fight off the man.

Following this, police was then able to get a clear description of the vehicle and he was arrested near Naduruloulou, outside Nausori Town.
