Teachers can call in

Update: 10:12PM A TEACHER hotline is available for those teachers who have questions with regards to contracts, the proficiency test and other issues surrounding recent controversies in the Ministry of Education.

At a press conference in Suva earlier today, the minister responsible for education, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the ministry would "address a number of systemic issues affecting Fijian teachers."

The AG said teachers can either call on 162 (between the hours of 8am and 8 pm) or email their queries to Csrmu.enquiries@gmail.com.

"Our teachers play an invaluable role in developing our young people and we need better protections in place to ensure everyone is always treated with dignity and respect. We need much greater transparency and accountability from the Ministry of Education to make that happen," Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

"Our teachers must be regarded as clients of Ministry of Education officials, only then can our teachers focus fully on providing high quality education to the 200,000 Fijian students throughout the country."

The AG said he looked forward to working with the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Education, Heritage and the Arts Alison Burchell.
