SYDNEY 7s: NZ defeats Fiji, takes trophy

Update: 9:09PM FIJI's Sydney 7s campaign ended with a 7-31 loss to New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy previously known as the plate competition.

Seemingly tired and lacking form, the Fijian size did not stand a chance against a more determined Kiwi side who led for most of the game keeping Fiji's scoreboard clean.

New Zealand began their onslaught within the first few seconds of the game with a try to Caleb Clarke converted by Vilimoni Koroi.

The All Blacks 7s team scored every three minutes, sometimes less, keeping the Fijian side rattled and without confidence.

Sione Molia's 4th minute try was converted by Koroi who scored his own try in the 6th minute and converted that.

The Amenoni Nasilasila and Eronic Sau combination led to the latter's ninth minute try and conversion but as if to respond to that surge of confidence, Regan Ware responded with a try too.

NZ's last try came from Tim Mikkelson in the final minute of the game.
