Love is in the air

FILIKESA Vulakouvaki Koroivueta first laid eyes on his wife Salanieta when he was introduced to her circle of friends at the University of the South Pacific seven years ago.

They were just foundation students and Filikesa, being a quiet and shy guy, started admiring the dimples on Sala's right cheek, which ended in asking Sala's friends if she had a partner already.

Things fell into place straight after a few introductions and dinner dates and the couple knew from then on that their love was meant for each other and they were bound to share their relationship for the rest of their lives.

This relationship was further sealed and blessed in a church wedding followed by a reception at Suva's Albert Park pavillion on January 12 in front of more than 200 close family members, relatives and friends.

And the exchange of vows was special — a promise they made on that special day.

The wedding venue was draped in blue and purple and had symbolised the two schools the couple attended — Queen Victoria School and Dudley High School.

The bride wore the traditional Lauan attire — fiu and the groom wore the traditional Fijian masi.

Like any other couple, it was always their first impression of each other and for Filikesa he had admired the way Sala smiled and her dimple while Sala automatically found her husband handsome.

This relationship was further enhanced when Fili, as he is commonly known, took his wife for lunch at the famous Happy Garden Restaurant in Suva a few months after their relationship had just bloomed.

The bride works at the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service while the groom is a technician. They always look forward to meal time or a baby mix with a never-ending chat as their favourite way of spending time with each other.

"Aimless Park was the group of friends' meeting place for lunch back at USP," Sala said.

"We would come together, sit around and chat. Little did I know at the time that within my group of friends was the man I would spend the rest of my life with.

"One night, Fili called to ask me out. At first, I told him I would think about it, then the next minute I told him yes, but under one condition not to let anyone in our group of friends know.

"We were hiding and pretending all along for about few months but little did I know that the same night he called to ask me out he was so happy that his approach was successful so he went to celebrate and could not hold himself and told my two girlfriends."

This was when the news broke out to their circle of friends.

But on every journey the couple had taken together for the past seven years, they always acknowledged the Lord for being their guardian and protector all along.

"We would like to thank our family and friends who came to witness our marriage and those who were not able to make it but sent their gifts and best wishes. It is our prayers that our Father in heaven will bless you and your families."
