Fans

As always experienced every year, Fijian fans are always the colourful and the ones with the most noise.

Yesterday they came in large numbers with their flags, banners and attire to support the Fiji teams. One Fiji fan said, they wanted to the boys to know that they rule the stands and they must not be afraid to do their best.

Roti sale

What we only experience during sports events in Fiji was also seen at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney yesterday. A lady was selling roti for $5 a serve. She said she came for a visit to Australia and wanted to earn some money before returning home by selling a few serves of roti and curry.

Media

The popularity of the Sydney 7s is confirmed by the big number of media personnel who are in Sydney to cover the three-day tournament which started on Friday. The print media room was full and some had to be placed in seats among fans at the Allianz Stadium from where they do their work. Food and refreshments disappear in minutes as the journalists tuck in for the free chow.

Hot weather

The hot weather experienced in Sydney for the past few days continued yesterday and fans and players enjoyed the day. Fiji coach Gareth Baber said the hot weather would be good for his players.

Team list

Our prediction for the opening game was correct as Fiji Airways 7s coach Gareth baber named Mesulame Kunavula, Josua Vakurinabili, Paula dranisinukula, Jerry Tuwai, Emoni Nasilasila, Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Eroni Sau in his first team against Samoa.
