Teachers transfer continuing, says Tiko

EDUCATION Ministry permanent secretary Iowane Tiko says the transfer of teachers was still continuing and was yet to be finalised.

He made these comments in response to a question raised by this newspaper about an all-boys school in Tailevu that had two vice-principals.

Mr Tiko could not elaborate much on this issue but said this was something that was being dealt with by the ministry.

As of Friday last week, teachers continued to visit the ministry's head office in Suva to inquire about their postings.

Earlier this month the Attorney-General and Minister for Education, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, during a press conference said the ministry was now working to implement a system which would enable teachers to collect their offer letters from their respective education district offices.

He said the issue of teachers lining up at the ministry's head office was continuing issue and this would be solved soon. He said the ministry would also be implementing a policy this year that would outline the basis of teachers transfer.
