Wife knifed at home

A COMMUNITY in Lautoka is in shock after a man, Ravin Nath, struck his wife with a cane knife during a domestic argument on Friday.

Witness and neighbour, Thakur Vijendra Singh said the incident at Tokovuci settlement in Tomuka, was distressing.

"It occurred yesterday (Friday) at about 4pm and I am one of their closest neighbours," he said.

"It was a quiet afternoon but as usual, the husband and wife were arguing.

"At first, we didn't think much of it because they fought regularly.

"When we heard a shout from inside, we asked the man to come outside and not argue with the wife.

"The argument worsened so we asked another neighbour to come and we went over."

Mr Singh claimed that was when they saw the suspect come out with a knife, which he threw aside and left before anyone could react.

Upon entering the house, they discovered the gruesome scene and called an ambulance, Mr Singh said.

"The ambulance did not come so the neighbours had to take her to the hospital."

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident and said investigations were continuing.

"A man is alleged to have seriously injured his 38-year-old wife with a cane knife several times after a heated argument," she said.

"A neighbour heard the victim crying for help and saw the suspect fleeing the scene and found the victim lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood."

The victim is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital in critical condition.

The suspect, Mr Nath, was also hospitalised later yesterday after he tried to take his own life.
