Census reveals low women's economic participation

Update: 12:45PM The 2017 Population and Housing Census revealed that 7.8 per cent of women out of the total population count are unemployed.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate said the low participation of women in the workforce is a feature for most countries in the world. 

After the Ministry's public consultations around Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, a draft unemployment policy was created. 

"The draft unemployment policy that has recently been the objective of public consultation around Viti Levu and Vanua Levu is designed to address unemployment," he said.
