Hundred co-ops get support

Saturday, January 27, 2018

Update: 11:07AM ONE hundred cooperatives from the Central and Eastern division were assisted through a workshop to ensure their compliance with the Cooperatives Act.

Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism permanent secretary Shaheen Ali said the ministry through the Department of Cooperatives Business will work with 100 selected cooperatives in the divisions to ensure that their by-laws are in line with the requirements set out in the Cooperatives Act.

"Cooperatives are formed to meet people's mutual needs, as a group of people work together to achieve goals that none of them could achieve alone.  Cooperative business provides a unique tool for achieving economic goals in an increasingly competitive world," he said.

Mr Ali said the Government wanted cooperatives business to thrive and flourish into bigger enterprises and to continue to contribute to the growth of the economy.
