Fijiana fall short

THE Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team had a disappointing outing at the 2018 Sydney 7s losing all its pool games yesterday.

The team failed to make the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series Sydney 7s cup playoffs.

The Ana Maria Roqica-skippered side lost its opening with a poor second half performance which saw the side going down to Canada 24-12 in their opening match of the 2018 Sydney 7s

Next came the Russians who stormed the Fijiana camp 19-12, and Ireland completed the drubbing 17-14 against the lacklustre Fijiana.

The Iliesa Tanivula-coached team led 7-0 at halftime after forward, Miriama Naiobasali scored a converted try, but the committed Amee Crowe and Audrey O'Flynn made the going impossible for the Fijiana side through a remarkable comeback in the second half of the match from the Irish.

Ireland led the points board at the end of the second half after scoring three tries.

Roqica scored another converted try in the second half, but was not enough to save her side.

They will play in one of the Challenge trophy semi-finals today.
