Call for support

Mere Naleba
Saturday, January 27, 2018

OUR national 7s rugby team needs you now, says 7s rugby wizard Waisale Serevi.

He called on every Fijian to support the Fiji Airways 7s team as they play in the Sydney 7s this weekend.

Serevi said every Fijian should rally behind the Jerry Tuwai-captained side and offer words of prayer and encouragement because representing the nation was not an easy task.

He said his message to the team had not changed.

"It should be a good weekend," he said.

"A lot has been said about the boys, I always tell the players it's not about talking back to people or writing things down in the media, it's all about getting on to the field and doing the work, showing them you're capable of doing better from the last tournament," Serevi said.

"You do your talking on the field."

He said with rugby considered the national sport for the country, Fijians should always consider that players had families and relatives who toiled hard to see their brother, husband, son and cousin wear the national jumper.

"To all the supporters and fans, if any time the boys need our support, it's now," he said.

"They are already there and they have families and we need to support them in prayers and messages we send to them.

"It is always tough to represent Fiji."

He will not be in Sydney this weekend, but is looking forward to the USA tournament of the series and the Hong Kong 7s.
