Police dominate Waimanu tourney

THE reigning Mana Whey Fiji Coral Coast Sevens champion Police Blues team looks like the team to beat to beat in the Congo Waimanu 7s tournament at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori this weekend.

The Manasa Bari-coached side beat Calia 2 45-0 and Nalaba 43-7 on the first day yesterday. Under the leadership of captain Keponi Paul, the lawmen showed high class competition in their second game and Coral Coast Sevens best player, Sakeo Railoa, the team's playmaker, was at his best scoring a brace of tries alongside teammate Glen Cakautini before beating Nalaba.

Team assistant manager Suliano Tevita said they were continuing the momentum after winning in Sigatoka last week.

"The players' performance keep improving. Our discipline needs to be improved and we need to minimise the yellow cards. We roped in Cakautini to play for us this week and he is performing well."

Meanwhile, Uluinakau Baabas coach Male Kolinivala said his players would regroup today after a disappointing start yesterday.

They lost 12-14 to Police White.

"Our weakness was lack of communication and not sticking to the game plan.

"If we want to make it to the final, we will have to improve on our discipline and avoid giving away penalties," Kolinivala said.
