THE Fijifor7s taskforce team which is promoting and looking for Fijians to sign and support Fiji's bid to host a tournament in the annual HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series has its awareness program to get signatures for the bid.

The team visited John Wesley Primary School and St Marcellin Primary School in Suva on Thursday. It was the start of Fiji Rugby Union, as the bidder, to gather as many support as possible to meet the bid requirements set by World Rugby.

FRU head of sponsorship Luke Matt said Fijians and Fiji rugby fans wishing to sign in the bid could log in and sign up on the Fijifor7s website to show their support.

"It obviously goes a long way for us being able to put forward an incredible bid to host a tournament of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series here," Matt said.

"Schools are the heart of rugby in Fiji.

"We want all boys and girls to grow up and be able to see their favourite stars play on their home soil and hopefully that will bring a sense of pride and want to play rugby.

"We're not looking at this as a tournament, but a legacy for rugby in Fiji moving forward."

He said the team would visit rural and urban areas in Fiji.

"We are looking at having a full roadshow for our men's and women's 7s teams when they return from Sydney and Wellington.

"We will engage with them to go out to get signups and show support for the campaign.

"Above and beyond, the campaign is obviously the bid itself and that is a large task as we continue to work.

"No decision has been made as to where the potential leg will be held, but we will continue with due diligence to ensure accommodation, transportation, infrastructure and importantly players' welfare are met."

Matt said they would get in top Fijian rugby players and local sports personalities to join the campaign.

"Above and beyond, Waisale Serevi we are looking to get and a number of ambassadors.

"Roy Krishna is one of the famous football players from Fiji and we're currently getting some footage of him in Wellington, so that will be another step in the campaign."
