No more shed, tent for pupils

AFTER having classes in a tent and shed for almost two years now, about 30 students of Years 7 and 8 of Navunisea District School in the district of Dawasamu, Tailevu, are excited about returning to newly-built classrooms.

School secretary Marica Bole said the school committee was happy with the progress of construction.

"The children are excited. Some are complaining that it's taking long, but we're thankful that it's happening and unlike some other places in the world, our children will soon return to the classrooms," Ms Bole said. "Only two classes are yet to return to classrooms, but work is progressing well.

"This time last year students were still learning in tents and when it rained they got wet and when the sun was shining they had to look for shade. So we're thankful."

Ms Bole said they were thankful to Global Vision International for its assistance in building a brand new library and kindergarten.

Ms Bole said Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston could have been a blessing in disguise as well, because this year there was an additional building to house Years 7 and 8.

"At the moment, some of the classrooms do not have blackboards and teachers are using plyboards, but compared with last year we're thankful they're back in classrooms," she said.
