Plans to tarseal village roads

AS part of Government's plans, roads passing through villages around the country will soon be tarsealed.

Speaking during his talanoa session in Tukavesi on Thursday, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said the plans would be implemented by the Fiji Roads Authority.

Mr Bainimarama said this was part of Government's efforts to uplift the images of villages in the country and develop them.

"There is a plan for roads in front of villages to be sealed and this will be undertaken in phases," he said.

"The project is prioritised and not all roads will be done up overnight because it will take time."

On a lighter note, Mr Bainimarama told villagers of Tukavesi that the last village to have its road tarsealed will be his village in Kiuva.

Villagers of Tukavesi had highlighted to Mr Bainimarama the need to have their roads tarsealed for the safety of villages and to prevent dust from entering homes.

In Taveuni, Naselesele villagers requested for the implementation of humps to prevent vehicles from speeding in front of their village.

Mr Bainimarama told villagers that they were not going to implement any more humps because it damaged vehicles.

"The road was made for vehicles and these humps affect them so we have decided on stopping their implementation."
