Boxers set to battle

THE Vunivau Boxing Club in Labasa will showcase five of their boxers in the Canada Fiji Southern Boxing Promotion scheduled at Labasa's Subrail Park next weekend.

The five boxers are Saven Singh, Krishneel Naresh, Yateshwar Mangal, Ram Autar and Krishnil Chand.

Trainer Joseph Naicker said the boxers were looking forward to the challenges and would be out to play their hearts for their loved ones.

He thanked the promoter Simon Naushad for giving his boxers the opportunity to showcase their talents.

"We are so grateful to be given this opportunity to fight in front of our home fans," said Naicker.

"We will not be going there to make up the numbers we will battle hard to win all our bouts."

Naicker said his boxers had been training for the past five months and were eager to gauge their standard against the best from Viti Levu.

"This promotion will also help the youths in Vnua Levu to take up the sport and we are thankful for this boxing revival program."

Meanwhile, the Canada Fiji Southern Promotion is dubbed as the battle of between Vanua Levu and Viti Levu boxers.

Rising star Siliveni Nawai of Nadi will battle against former South Pacific Games gold medallist Osea Nakanacagi in the main bout.

Another exciting battle will be between Suva's Tomu Ganavou and Nacula villager of Vanu Levu Tevita Sete.

Other renowned names include Abhay Chand, Savenaca Naliva, Filimoni Naliva Jr, Jr Farzan, Vitori Natawake and Lepani Tuiviwa.

The program will be held on December 16.
