YOUNG weight-lifting sensation, Sofia Kinikinilau's diet sacrifice did not go in vain after she walked off the stage with two bronze medals in the weight-lifting competition of the 2017 Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu on Tuesday night.

"It was a hard phase for me during training since I had to drop a lot of weight to compete in the 58 kilogram category," she said.

"I am satisfied with my performance though I settled for bronze medals.

I thank the Lord Almighty and coach Joe Vueti for helping me in training.

"I had been training a lot since I was based in Suva."

Kinikinilau said she was eyeing to compete in the top weight-lifting competition, especially in the 2019 International Weightlifting Federation World Junior Championship which will be held in Fiji.

"I went through a lot in the past few weeks where I was asked to reduce a lot of weight. I was in the 60 kilogram category and I had to reduce to compete in the 58 kilograms category," she said.

"It was a difficult time. I had to skip meals and mostly depend on apples to get into my category and make my family proud of my achievement," she said.
