Thursday, December 07, 2017

IT is a call of duty for soldier Alosio Naduva to lead the Fiji team in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games rugby 7s competition.

Naduva, 26, will captain the team and he believes he has a huge role to guide the players on the field.

"I am proud to lead the team since it is my first tournament, but at the same time I am under a lot of pressure because I will be captaining the team," he said.

"I have to lead the team by example. I will never forget the moment of captaining the Fiji 7s team because it is every player's dream to wear the Fiji jumper and serve the nation.

"There is a huge pressure because we have to win the gold medal for the country."

Naduva is a member of the Suva Rugby Union domestic competition and plays for the Army Green team in 7s competitions such as the Coral Coast 7s, Nawaka 7s and Raka 7s.

"My plan is to go to the senior team and compete in the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series and I have been working hard towards that.

"I was dropped from the squad to the Dubai 7s, but I am optimistic that one day I will be go and play in the series."

The Naweni villager from Cakaudrove Province attended St Bede's College and moved to Lomary Secondary School in Serua.

"I am working hard after I was dropped from the squad and will continue to work harder in the future."
