Tanivula wants the best

FIJI Airways Fijiana 7s head coach Iliesa Tanivula wants to assemble the best possible team for the next leg of the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series to be held in Sydney in January.

And the former All Blacks 7s playmaker needs the services of 2016 World Rugby Women 7s Rookie of the Year Rejieli Daveua for his next outing.

He said the dual international didn't make last weekend's event because of work commitments.

"She was selected for Dubai unfortunately she could not make it because of work commitments,' said Tanivula.

"We are hopeful to have her back in the team for the next leg where she can continue to develop her combination with her national 7s teammates.

"We also understand that she has been playing netball but it would be a bonus to have her in the team."

Tanivula said there was a big gap between the new players and experienced national reps.

"There is a big gap in terms of skills and class when you compare the new girls and the current national reps."

"Making it more difficult is the fact we don't have local women's 7s tournaments where our players can continuously showcase and develop their 7s talents. But again as mentioned earlier I will work with what is available and we will keep on working hard."

He said the players needed to be back in camp next week in readiness for the Sydney 7s.

"We will continue to work hard and first and foremost I need to work on the players' fitness."

Meanwhile, Tanivula is also eying overseas-based players to join the team preparation for next year's Commonwealth Games and the Rugby Sevens World Cup. Overseas-based players include Rebecca Tavo, Ebony Satala and Brittany Coates.
