Creating netball partnership

THE International Netball Festival is more than just netball.

This is according to INF president Jane Rushton as the three-day competition ended at Lautoka's multi- purpose court yesterday.

She said apart from the netball competitions, the touring teams visited several villages in the West building new partnerships.

Rushton said many overseas teams even sponsored the registration fees of local players to be part of this year's festival.

"Many Australian teams sponsored over half of the registration fees for the local teams to attend the INF Fiji, and brought them gifts," she said.

"The aim is to support Fiji netball in the community and to create wonderful bonds between Australian and Fijian girls.

"Also to encourage more netballers to play and most importantly some girls will stay friends for a life time."

She said plan was in the pipeline to widen their service to Fiji netball.

"In the near future the INF are looking at setting up a mentor coaching program for netball in villages, clubs and school. "

"Volunteers will come for free and assist when requested for a week.

Rushton also invited local teams to test their skills in Australia next year.

"All Fiji netball teams are invited to the 7th INF Gold Coast held every April.

"This is an even bigger event," she said.
