THE Rewa Disabled People Organisation celebrated International day for disability with their families during their sports day at Burebasaga District School ground yesterday.

President Litia Naitanui said sports was a way for them to get in touch with the world.

"We've always been looked down because of how we were born and we are grateful to the Government and the UN for setting a date for us to celebrate who we are," she said.

"Sports is a great way for us to showcase our talent and our ability that we have to show that we can also play sports. One of our inspirations is the Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana, after he won our first Olympic gold medal and that was through sports.

"We would like to tell everyone that nothing is impossible and with the support of our family it brings out the joy inside us. We're grateful to Fiji National Sports Commission and APTC for helping us organise our sports day.

"The main sports that we played were soccer, cricket and tennis and we really enjoyed the day."

Naitanui said hopefully next year celebration would bring all disabled people from the province of Tailevu and Rewa to come and join them in celebration through sports.

"The different types of disability that we have today we take part in all sports and that is important.

"It shows that we can handle anything from office work to the playing field so through sports we can achieve anything."
