General elections

Dewan Chand Namadi Heights, Suva
Tuesday, December 05, 2017

Reference is made to FBC 4 the Record program on Sunday, December 3, 2017, in which Mohammad Saneem — the Supervisor of Elections — was interviewed on various aspects of the Elections Office.

The other panellist, Rachna Lal and the host Mathew Galuvakadua, directed questions at Mohammad Saneem. I was amazed with the manner and the confidence with which he responded to the questions. He was quick to respond to the questions promptly with a number of details.

This gives a good feeling that the man knows exactly what he is doing and will deliver the results come elections 2018.

Responding to questions, Mohammad Saneem gave details of the number of registered voters, their age categories percentage wise, number of polling booths, number of persons trained to man these booths on the election day, the security features of the ballot paper and the security at the booths. One could not help but feel that under his command the Elections Office is working like a well oiled machine.

Further, he talked about the independence of the Elections Office and the transparent manner in which it operates. The entire focus seems to be on providing the voters friendly, hassle free environment in which voters can come and vote in the shortest possible time. No waiting in long queues.

He even indicated that pre-election rehearsals will be carried out to build voter confidence. This sounds great.

My best wishes to Mohammad Saneem and his team at the Elections Office.
