The Ravudi legacy

BOXER Josefa Ravudi Jr is confident of winning a gold medal in the 2017 Pacific Mini Games which starts in Port Vila, Vanuatu today.

Ravudi Jr, a police officer by profession, said Fijian boxers stood a good chance of winning gold medals in Vila after months of intense training in Suva.

"I am dedicating my Pacific Mini Games to my son Junior Ravudi who is two months old," he said.

Ravudi comes from a family of boxers with his namesake father a former national heavyweight champion.

His brother Jese was a former national rep.

"Boxing in Vanuatu will be a tough competition," the Vila-bound Ravudi said.

"I have faced boxers from Papua New Guinea and Nauru. I can expect a lot of heavy punches being thrown at me by the other competitors."

Fiji will be represented by Olympian Winston Hill, Cena Ruatu, Jone Koroilagilagi, Pauliasi Ratu Jr and Nemani Rokobuli.

"I have been part of the amateur boxing for the past six years and I have enjoyed every moment.

"We have spent hours in the gym training for the Pacific Mini Games and it will now come to the match day as how we settle in then fight."

The amateur boxing competition will be held at Korman Sporting Complex in indoor hall one from December 12-15.
