THE festive season officially began at the Shangri La's Fijian Resort with a Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Yanuca Island over the weekend.

Shangri La's Fijian Resort general manager Francis Lee said the occasion capped off an important year for the resort which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.

He sad the resort had undergone a number of important changes including renovations to some of its iconic rooms.

He said the future of the resort was bright and they were looking forward to the new year.

Mr Lee added that they were grateful to their guests from choosing to stay at the resort which had a long and important history in the tourism industry.

The resort also used the occasion to give $7000 to WOWS (Walk on Walk Strong) Fiji which would go towards supporting young cancer patients in Fiji and Tonga.
