7s X factor

There were complaints raised when the names of the Fiji Drua captain John Stewart and teammate Eroni Sau were included in the Fiji Airways Sevens team to the first leg of the 2017/18 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

The Drua boys were drafted in without going through the hard yards that all sevens players vying to wear the Fiji jersey goes through.

I believe that after day one at the Dubai Sevens, we can all say that coach Baber made the right call, because both of the Drua boys shone like stars.

Stewart was really impressive in the final pool game against Australia and his vision to run from the left of the ruck to the right and receive that timely pass from captain Jerry Tuwai to score the winning try at full-time was just glorious stuff.

Our Fiji Airways 7s team looked relaxed and they just clicked, meaning that they just read the game and each other well.

I believe if they get to cripple South Africa in the semi-final then our boys will play either Australia or England in the Dubai 7s final.

We all want our boys to start the new HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series with the Dubai cup and I am not surprised if the two Drua boys will be the X factors in the win.
