Increased pork supply

A LOCAL meat supply company anticipates increased pork supply over the Christmas festive period.

Suva-based Leylands Ltd general manager Christopher Yee said the meat industry had experienced shortages in pork in previous years and learning from that experience, pork suppliers this year have indicated they expect to be able to meet market demand.

Leylands Ltd is a meat supply company, operating a pig and cattle farm at Naboro, manufacturer of small goods, is a distributor of various meats to hotels, restaurants and the public and operates a retail butcher's shop in Suva on Usher St opposite the Suva markets.

The company also operates its own pig farm and Mr Yee said: "Farming in general always has challenges and some of those challenges has led to shortages in pork supply in previous years.

"But we know our customers love pork in their lovo, it's a family favourite over Christmas, so we've been working hard to ensure our customers have enough pork for this time of year."

Mr Yee attributed their success to perseverance and desire for continual improvement.

"Sometimes unfortunate things happen in farming and in business.

"The most important thing is to push through it and don't give up and continually work towards a better future."
