Bank drive aims to empower children

A LEADING commercial bank in Fiji has launched a unique Christmas gift aimed at safeguarding Fiji's future financial security and empowering children across the country.

Bank South Pacific (BSP) Fiji, yesterday announced an initiative which made it seemingly easier for parents and guardians to open their child's new bank account.

Under the new deal, members of the public can walk into any BSP branch Fiji wide from December 1 and purchase a $10 BSP MoneyZONE gift voucher to fund a child's first bank account.

BSP country manager Kevin McCarthy said the MoneyZONE gift voucher program was a demonstration of their commitment in helping parents, guardians, goodwill champions and others to help a child's first step on their road to financial freedom.

"There is no minimum age for a child to own a BSP MoneyZONE account.

"We have had accounts opened as soon as a baby is born while others have waited until the child is old enough to receive guidance on saving and spending responsibly," he added.

"We are happy to assist parents and guardians who are eager to give a gift that will last a lifetime."

The BSP MoneyZONE voucher can also be gifted to any child of their choosing.

However, in order to redeem this money gift, a child and a parent or guardian will need to present the voucher along with the necessary account opening requirements at any BSP branch Fiji wide.

Requirements to open a new account are: the child's birth certificate, passport size photo and a tax ID.

A parent or guardian must also present a tax ID, valid photo ID (FNPF joint card/driver's licence/passport); plus either a current utility bill bearing your name and address or a letter of reference.

The program comes after the BSP's November campaign to enhance their customer service delivery by opening all its branches across the country, every Saturday, to deliver instant approvals on personal loans.
