ONE of the country's leading hardware merchants, RC Manubhai and Company Ltd, opened a brand new $5 million outlet in Tukani St, Lautoka, yesterday.

Managing director Dinesh Patel said the opening of the company's second outlet in the Sugar City marked a milestone for the Patel family.

"The $5m investment in this project testifies to our commitment and confidence in the Sugar City and nation as a whole," he said at the opening ceremony.

"People of Lautoka are indeed fortunate that this new shop will no doubt give more choices for building materials."

Chief guest Lautoka City Council CEO Jone Nakauvadra  said apart from providing employment and increased service to customers, the new outlet had also transformed what was once an eyesore into a major trading store.

"On the same note, I would like to encourage other businesses and organisations to improve their infrastructure and facilities,? he said.

"We have some buildings within the central business district that need compete renovation to bring some life to the city."

Mr Nakauvadra said the ongoing expansion of the company was in line with the pioneering spirit of two brothers ? Dahyabhai V Patel and Raojibhai V Patel ? who arrived in Fiji from India in 1926.

"They established a grocery business called DV Patel and Sons in Korovuto, Ba."

He said the brothers entrepreneurial spirit resulted in the establishment of RC Manubhai and Co Ltd in 1960.

"And there has been no looking back for the company since.

"They have shops throughout Fiji and have also branched out in the South Pacific."
