Weather Bulletin

A HEAVY RAIN ALERT REMAINS IN FORCE FOR VANUA LEVU, TAVEUNI AND

NEARBY SMALLER ISLANDS, LAU AND LOMAIVITI GROUP AND THE EASTERN HALF

OF VITI LEVU.

Situation:  A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain

lies slow moving over the group. It is expected to affect the group

for the next few days.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group:

Occasional rain, heavy at times  and few thunderstorms over Vanua

Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group,

the eastern parts and interior of the other larger islands. Rain

becoming frequent from later today. Elsewhere, showers especially in

the afternoon or evening with thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls

expected. 

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas. 

Moderate to fresh east to southeast winds.

Moderate to rough seas.

Outlook for Thursday   : Occasional rain, heavy at times and few

thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands,

Lau and Lomaiviti group, the eastern parts and interior of the other

larger islands. Elsewhere, some showers especially in the afternoon

or evening showers with possible thunderstorms and isolated heavy

falls expected.

For Navua / Suva / Nausori :

Occasional rain, heavy at times with few thunderstorms.

Outlook for Thursday   : Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls

and few thunderstorms. 

For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba :

Some showers especially in the afternoon or evening with possible

thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls expected.

Outlook for Thursday   : Occasional showers. Isolated afternoon or

evening heavy falls and thunderstorms.

For Labasa :

Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.

Outlook for Thursday   : Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls

and few thunderstorms. 

For Savusavu : Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.

Outlook for Thursday   : Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls

and few thunderstorms.

For Rotuma :

A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain affects

Rotuma.

Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms.

Moderate easterly winds, fresh and gusty at times.

Moderate to rough seas.

Outlook for Thursday   : Rain and thunderstorms easing.

A STRONG WIND WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR SOUTHWEST VITI LEVU

WATERS, SOUTHERN LAU WATERS, KORO SEA, VATU-I-RA AND KADAVU PASSAGES.

Situation:

A trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain lies slow

moving over the group. It is expected to affect the group for the

next few days. Meanwhile a high pressure system to the far southeast

of Fiji directs a strong southeast wind flow over the group.

Forecast to 6am tomorrow for Fiji waters:

For Southwest Viti Levu Waters, Southern Lau Waters, Koro Sea,

Vatu-i-Ra and Kadavu Passages:

Southeast winds 20 to 25 knots. 

Rough seas. 

Moderate southeasterly swells.

Pooor visibility in areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Further outlook:  East to southeast winds 20 to 25 knots. Rough seas.

Moderate southeasterly swells. 

For the rest of Fiji Waters:

Easterly winds 15 to 20 knots. 

Moderate to rough seas. 

Moderate southeasterly swells.

Pooor visibility in areas of heavy rain and thunderstorms. 

Further outlook:   Easterly winds 15 to 20 knots. Moderate to rough

seas. Moderate southeasterly swells.
