FIJI Airways Fiji 7s team has the capability of starting the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series with a win in Dubai 7s says manager Mark Drown.

The team has settled well in Dubai ahead of this weekend's tournament where Fiji will play Australia, Wales, and Russia in their pool matches.

"Coach Gareth Baber and the staff had worked with the recovery protocols after the long transit. It involved a recovery session in the gym, extensive stretching, light cardio, and plyometrics for muscle activation.

"The goal at this point is to reset the players to the new timelines and daily rhythm leading into the countdown week.

"Baber will then start the field sessions involving attacking and defensive sessions as well as other areas specific to the Fiji style of play to ensure the team is ready and synchronised heading into the first match."

Drown said it was important for the players to get acclimatized to the Dubai weather.

"The Dubai weather has been quite co-operative and is averaging around 25 degrees with light winds and low humidity. The key is to ensure the players stay hydrated, get adequate rest, proper nutrition and are kept in a positive state of mind.

"The key is really the extensive time zone change and by arriving here five days prior should help in getting the players into a solid sleep pattern going into the competition."

The Jerry Tuwai-captained side will play Russia at 7.06pm on Friday before taking on Wales at 10.06pm.

Fiji will play Australia at 4.06am on Saturday morning which could be the decider for the top of the pool clash.

"This is an experienced side in terms of maturity and capability," Drown said.

"Baber has a nice balance of seasoned veterans and up and coming players who have a very nice chemistry under captain Tuwai.

"The solid performance in the semi-finals and finals of the Oceania Cup is an indicator of what these players are capable of and we look forward to a solid performance in the weeks to come," Drown said.
