35k sponsorship for Nasinu 7s

THE Nasinu Rugby Football Union launched the Ram Sami and Sons-sponsored Nasinu 7s at the Wallson Foods Ltd office in Valelevu, Nasinu yesterday.

Ram Sami and Sons sponsored the tournament with a sponsorship of $35,000 for the tournament.

Company director Prashneel Sami Goundar elaborated on the healthy life through rugby.

"In the capacity of being the major sponsor and to be part of such event that not only brings the benefit to the committee, but our individual lives as well.

"The theme of the tournament is to fight non-communicable diseases through rugby," he said.

"NCDs are becoming one of the major health issues not only in Fiji but globally. By sponsoring the event it will help us keep our community healthy and physically and mentally fit."

Nasinu Football Rugby Union president Paula Biu said the union was grateful to the company for have trust and faith in them.

"It is an honour and humble to have Ram Sami and Sons to come and sponsor the 7s tournament and we thank the company for giving us the opportunity to revive the tournament," Biu said.

"This is the first Nasinu Rugby Football Union 7s tournament and I hope Ram Sami and Sons will be there for us in the next two years as per our sponsors agreement.

"Initially we decided to have 24 men's teams to compete in the tournament and after a long discussion between the committee and the sponsors we have agreed to include women's competition. There will be 12 teams in the women's competition and 32 in the men's competition."

The tournament will be held from February 16-17 next year.

Meanwhile, former Flying Fijians fly half and centre Seremaia Bai will coach the Nasinu Hurricanes senior team for the 2018 Vodafone Vanua competition while Viliame Turagavou will coach Wallson's Nasinu Hurricanes under-20 side.

"Bai was selected through the independent committee after they went through the selection process for the position of the coach. We had received five applicants for the position.
