FIJIAN judokas Nathalyn Takayawa, Shanice Takayawa and Nemani Takayawa have been training in Japan for the 2017 Pacific Mini Games which will be held in Port Vila, Vanuatu from next week.

Fiji Judo Association president Nacanieli Takayawa said he had high hopes from the judokas.

"We have three athletes going to the Pacific Mini Games and they have been preparing in Japan," he said.

"The judokas had been preparing in Japan for the past five weeks for the competition.

"They should be able to make Fiji proud and win gold medals."

The trio will be in the country on Thursday before departing for the competition.

"All of them won a medal each in the New Zealand competition where the Pacific island athletes and Australian athletes competed," he said.

"It has been a big boost and they qualified on merit for the competition.

"They will be carrying forward the Takayawa legacy, but with that it comes with a lot of responsibility and a lot of expectation and hopefully they will deliver come the Pacific Mini Games.

"It is their first Pacific Mini Games and I wish them the best for the competition and I urge the people to support them no matter what is the outcome result from the competition."

The judo competition will start on Tuesday at Vanuatu Military Force camp in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
