SPRINTER Makereta Naulu is dedicating her 2017 Pacific Mini Games 100 metres run to her late mother Akesa Kamusu, who died two months ago after battling cancer.

Naulu said her mother had been her biggest fan.

"She would have been proud if she was here today, but I am definitely going to make her proud wherever she was now," the proud daughter said.

"She hardly use to come to see me participate, but when she was sick especially during the later stages of her sickness she always encourages me a lot.

"I got a lot of memories with her and especially during the Asian Indoor Games in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. I called her and we talked and she encouraged me and told me to work hard and do my best."

The 18-year-old former Adi Cakobau School student said she was would do her best in the Pacific Mini Games.

"It will be a tough competition since most of the athletes around the region have been preparing hard for the Pacific Mini Games," she said.

"My biggest competitor would be Papua New Guinea sprint queen Toea Wisil and I am improving my time.

"I will use all the experience from the overseas competitions and the last Pacific Games in 2015 ton help do well this time in Vanuatu."

The Pacific Mini Games will be held from December 4-15 in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
