Sikeli Qounadovu In Dubai
Monday, November 27, 2017

FIJIANS living in Dubai believe the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team is one of the best prepared national team of the abbreviated code ahead of this week's Emirates Dubai 7s tournament.

On Saturday the team had a warm up game with a local club — the Jebel Ali Dragons.

The two teams played five quarters with coach Gareth Baber testing out different combinations.

His first set saw Jasa Veremalua and Mesulame Kunavula at prop with army man Paula Dranisinukula at hooker.

Captain Jerry Tuwai was at half-back while the elusive Vatemo Ravouvou ran at first five. John Stewart manned the rovers position and nippy Waisea Nacuqu at wing.

Nacuqu was later moved to half-back while Amenoni Nasilasila replaced Ravouvou, Kalioni Nasoko at rover and the rugged Eroni Sau at wing.

Vito Tuivione, one of five Fijians playing for the Dragons, said the team should be able to rise up to the occassion during the game.

"They are fit and have a very good combination, especially when Eroni Sau came in, and we saw the Drua combination between him and Stewart," Tuivione said.

"Should be a good tournament and we have faith in this team, so we will support them and cheering from the grandstand."

One thing is for sure the national sevens team will not be short of support at the Dubai 7s as Fijians in the United Arab Emirates will be coming out in full force to support the team.

Meanwhile, the Dragons had the services of five Fijians — Sakiusa Nasau, Niko Volavola, Epeli Qativi, Pio Tanimatuku and Vito Tuivione.

The Dubai 7s will kick off on December 1.
