Athletics, officials, media briefed on Vanuatu games

TEAM Fiji athletes, officials, and media assembled for a briefing for the 2017 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on Saturday.

Team Fiji deputy chef de mission Pauline Stephen-Morris said the athletes were briefed on the competition.

"The athletes were told on the various things about the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu," she said.

The first wave of the athletes will depart for Port Vila, Vanuatu on Friday and the sports which travel in the first waves are beach volleyball, football, golf, judo, rugby 7s, table tennis, para table tennis, tennis, weightlifting and everyone from Team Fiji headquarters and the medical personnel.

The first wave will return on December 9 while the second wave which consists of athletics, para-athletics, boxing, basketball and headquarters team personnel leave on the same flight for their respective competitions..

"Most of the athletes going will be their first trip representing Fiji and then sport and thirdly they will represent themselves and it is an exciting time for them," she added.

"The athletes are to treat the Pacific Mini Games just like any other international competition.

"We want them to go and do their best."

The Pacific Mini Games will be held from December 4-15 in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
