Australia sevens

Savenaca Vakaliwaliwa, Suva
Monday, November 27, 2017

I agree with Kositatino Tikomaibolatagane (FT 23/11), regarding the fast tracking of players into the Fiji 7s team and also his opinion that Fiji will not come out victorious in the first two legs of the HSBC Sevens World Series 2017-2018.

While we all loved the way our boys played in retaining the Oceania 7s title by defeating New Zealand in the final convincingly, I believe Australia will be the team to beat.

The Australian team that played in the Oceania 7s is their development side, not the full Australian side that has defeated Fiji four times already.

The Australian sevens team have big, young, fast and fit players while our Fiji 7s team have small, young, fast and fit players as well.

The difference is that it takes more than one player to bring down one big player and this is Australia's advantage.

The Dubai 7s is coming up this weekend and I pray that our boys will come up with a game plan to topple teams with big boys such as Australia.

Go Fiji, go.
