More Tests

VODAFONE Fiji Bati captain Kevin Naiqama said there should be more Test matches or otherwise the scoreline against tier one nations would continue to be like that between his side and Australia.

Australia beat Fiji 54-6 in a one sided affair at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

Naiqama said the only way smaller nations could get better was to have regular Test matches.

Coach Mick Potter supported Naiqama but said that clubs were often reluctant to release players as well for Test matches.

"It's great to have Test matches against tier one nations but clubs are often reluctant to release their players and that is often a tug of war.

"Having the world cup every four years is good. Test matches have their merits but we can't have the players suffering, they also need a break at times and they can't be playing too much football," Potter said.

Meanwhile, Potter said the scoreline against Australia wasn't flattering and the ill-discipline early on in the game cost the side field position and points.

"You can't give Australia points and field position early.

"I thought the boys tried their hardest and we couldn't ask for more.

"I think we just gave away penalties and I thought we were aggressive but overcooked it a little bit," Potter said.

"The team achieved what it could have achieved."

Captain Kevin Naiqama said he was proud of the team's performance against the world number one and thanked all supporters of the team in Fiji and across the globe.

Winger Suliasi Vunivalu was disappointed with his performance after the match saying that a number of tries by Australia were scored on his end.

But capping off his first world cup, the 22-year-old said he loved Fiji and would continue to represent the country.
