Passion, purpose

TEAM Fiji will go with purpose and passion to the 2017 Pacific Mini Games which will be held in Port Vila, Vanuatu next month.

The athletes, officials and the media were briefed about the games by Team Fiji chef de mission Wayne O'Connor and deputy chef de mission, Pauline Stephen-Morris in Suva yesterday.

They headed the team assembly and helped the athletes to know each other better since they came from different sporting bodies.

The athletes also took part in team bonding activities such as athletes shaking hands with one hand looking into the eyes building the trust in one another and going to Vanuatu as a team.

"It was a successful day and what more we could say," said O'Connor.

"United in spirit and we will go out with a purpose and passion."

The first lot of the team will depart the country on December 1 for Port Vila.

They return on December 9 and the second batch leaves on the same flight for their respective competitions.

"It was a wonderful thing for athletes to meet and shake hands.

"At the end it is about getting everyone to look into each other's eye and wish each other well," O'Connor said.

"They will never get the opportunity again. Some would go in the first wave while the some would go a week later, so when they will be arriving the others will be leaving for Fiji."

The games will be held at Port Vila from December 4-15.

Like Team Fiji, other nations are also preparing well for the tournament.

Fiji is expected to be among the strong contenders of the tournament.
