Tanivula happy with performance

THE Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team is confident of improving its form last year when the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series kicks off in Dubai next weekend.

The Iliesa Tanivula-coached side finished fourth in the overall points table last season.

With the inclusion of few new players, the side is required to work hard to overcome their opponents in their pool games.

Tanivula said he had faith in his players and needed a good start at Dubai as a benchmark for other 7s tournaments.

"Our aim is to get to the top four and continue to improve from where we left off last year," said Tanivula.

"We want to get better, we have few new girls coming on and it's a new challenge."

The former New Zealand 7s rep said the side had been drawn in a tough pool and the girls needed to work hard to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.

The side is in the same pool as Canada, Ireland and Spain.

"These teams have proven themselves in the series. Canada finished third in last year's standing and Ireland is a tough opponent.

"Dubai offers us another opportunity to improve on the benchmark set last year and we are looking forward to the event."

Tanivula said with the Commonwealth Games and the Rugby 7s World Cup scheduled for next year, all teams would be in top form in their quest to build a winning combination.
