THE Army women's team is ready to battle in the 2017 Raka 7s which kicks off at the ANZ Stadium in Suva from today.

The side wants to do well and hopes are high to win the trophy and the $5000 prizemoney.

"We had only two weeks of preparation and we are ready to compete," team manager Gladys William said.

"We are competing for the first time in such a tournament so the players are excited and looking forward to competing with the other teams. We are planning to compete in many more tournaments in future as we want to have a good competitive team."

The side have players such as Iliana Toge, Sisilia Dunn, Anisa Ravai and Savaira Ratu.

"We won't underestimate any teams, but we will do our best," she added.

"There are some players who are playing league and with their hard training will be a big boost for the team and it can be an advantage for us as well."

The Army is pooled with Marist Seahawks, Lautoka, and Tavua in Pool 3.
