FORMER rugby league player and Fiji Airways Drua center Eroni Sau is ready for his first 7s outing with the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team in the 2017/2018 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai next month.

The Marou, Yasawa lad said he knew the challenge ahead after switching from league to 15s and now 7s.

"First of all I am honoured to be chosen to be selected in this team and I am hungry to wear the white jersey. This is a blessing for me as I excel in my rugby career," he said.

"I've played and also competed with some of these players in some major 7s tournaments around Fiji.

"A lot of these players are from the West and it is quite easy to jel in with them.

"I am so thankful to the senior players. I've seen them play but to actually play alongside them is a great privilege for me.

"For me personally I've been trying for years to make it to the 7s squad but unfortunately in 2013 I was dropped and I thought that was the end of my 7s career but now I've been given another chance to showcase my talent, I will do my best in Dubai."

Sau added that switching from league to 15s and now 7s wasn't much of a challenge.

"Coming to 7s and having a taste of their training is really intense but I am glad to go through this to help me improve on my skills and fitness."

Meanwhile Drua captain and former Sunwolves player John Stewart said having a taste of 7s training was a headache to him.

"During my first day training with the 7s team I was dizzy because the kind of training these boys went through but seeing the old players enjoying the training boosted my morale to push myself.

"It was quite hard as it was a different training altogether, but I am glad I am adapting to it very well and hope to play my best in the Dubai 7s."

Stewart's last outing with the 7s team in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series was during former national 7s coach Alifereti Dere's time in 2012.
