THE Ford Motor Company, through its local distributor Shreedhar Motors Ltd, pledged a $US15,000 ($F31,167) grant to the Rotary Pacific Water for Life (RPW) for the provision of clean water to two rural communities in Naitasiri.

A Ford News press release issued by Shreedhar Motors said the grant would enable RPW to provide clean potable water and improved sanitation to 200 residents of two rural communities in Naitasiri.

"We are proud of our ongoing efforts and contributions that help provide real long-term benefits to the people of Fiji," Arvin Narayan, CEO of Shreedhar Motors said.

National manager sales and marketing for Shreedhar Motors Jagdish Chand said they had been giving this conservation and environmental grants since 2014 and this was their fifth project as such.

'Yes, we're definitely happy that this money will be used to provide clean water for communities in Naitasiri as this project conforms with our help on environmental issues," he said.

He said he was sure that these communities would be thankful for receiving fresh and sanitised water under this project.

Meanwhile, RPW organisational development specialist Prem Sinha, who was part of the RPW team that received the grant, said the grant would be used to provide clean water for Vatunilase and Waisa villages in Naitasiri.

"The grant is really from the Ford Foundation for which Shreedhar Motors is the local representative and we've received $US15,000 this year, that's around $F30,000," he said.

Mr Sinha said since 2014 this fund had been given locally, but the Ford Foundation had provided more than $US5 million ($F10.4m) in conservation and environmental funding worldwide.

He said since 2007 RPW had completed 265 such projects in Fiji benefiting 70,877 people around the country and worth $6.1m.

"And these projects have been funded by the New Zealand government Rotary NZ Community Services Ltd, FIJI Water Foundation, the Japanese Embassy, Rotary Club donations and of course the Ford Foundation. VaiWai is a major platinum corporate sponsor for Rotary Pacific Water," Mr Sinha said.
