Tough campaign for champ

DIGICEL Punjas Super League reigning champion Western Zeniths netball team is expecting a tough competition this year.

Laced with eight members of last year's winning team, the side has a good chance of defending the top award despite the tough battle from other teams in the competition.

Co-coach Iliseva Drasuna said defending the title would be tough but was confident of her players' capabilities.

Drasuna and her co-coach Lili Bainitabua have been working hard round-the-clock in trying to field a winning combination for their first game against Central Swifts.

She said majority of the players were students and would be joined by their Fiji Pearls reps.

The national reps include sharp-shooter Maliana Rusivakula, Alisi Galo, Verenaisi Sawana and Laniana Naiyama.

"Only four players turned out in our first few days of training as majority of our players are students and are engaged in their external exams," said Drasuna.

"Most of these students turned out at training yesterday. Defending the title will be tough as all teams will be out to beat us."

Drasuna said one of the advantages for this year's campaign was the availability of many players that featured in last year's winning team.

"We just need to finetune their combination at training before we take the court for our first game.'

The side is expected to face a tough battle against arch rival Capital Force- which has majority of the Suva and national reps when the competition starts tomorrow.
